KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 6, 2008) - Kelowna-area residents and visitors will be able to enjoy more high-qualitytheatrical performances thanks to an investment from the Governmentof Canada.
Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament (Kelowna-Lake Country), onbehalf of the Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of CanadianHeritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announcedfunding for the Sunshine Theatre Society.
Funding of $16,000 will help the Society produce this year'sSunshine Theatre Presentation Series, four professional theatrepresentations that will emphasize contemporary and new Canadianworks, including performances for students.
"The Government of Canada recognizes that culture is an importantpart of healthy communities," said Minister Verner. "Our Governmentwants to ensure that all Canadians have opportunities to enjoydiverse and varied artistic experiences, such as the SunshineTheatre Presentation Series."
"Arts organizations must have access to resources that enablethem to flourish in their communities," said Mr. Cannan. "Today'sfunding will allow this organization to offer unique culturalexperiences to audiences in British Columbia."

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through theArts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of CanadianHeritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to thediversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional artsfestivals, presentations of live professional performances, andother artistic experiences.
